TEDx @ Kohler St.

Today Homegirl Cafe and Catering participated in TEDx@KohlerSt. This was an independently organized TED event about Creativity through Food, Invention, and the Arts. Sarah Leone, our Farm to Table coordinator gave a presentation about organic gardening and composting. Afterward, we demonstrated seed planting and everyone got to take home their handmade pot filled with their freshly-planted soil and seeds. Alisha Ruiz also spoke about her experience at Homegirl. Alisha is our Lead Line Cook at the Cafe and she has been with us since 2008. Since starting at Homegirl Cafe, Alisha has stayed clean, out of jail, got off probation, got her driver's license, her own apartment and car and received full custody of her child. Alisha earned a scholarship to go to Culinary School at Glendale Community College. Alisha is dedicated to speaking with other at risk-youth and speaks to high schools, junior highs, and summer camps.
